The vitale role of HR

Organizations play a critical role in helping employees to adjust to the new country and cope with the difficulties of international assignments.

The lack of organizational support and commitment can lead to poor performance and, ultimately, to premature departure. Furthermore research show that the most common reasons for international assignees dissatisfaction are:

  • Insufficient preparation before the assignment,

  • Insufficient help to adjust to the new country,

  • Lack of work-life balance policies

  • Insufficient organization assistance with family relocation.

Work-Life Management

Expats probably experience some of the most elevated levels of work-family conflict. Being exposed to very challanging demands - the stress of change- they are at the same time feeling cut of from important resources such as family support, familarity with childdcare and schooling facilities. Employers have a duty to care for their employees’ mental and physical health with policies that address this issue. Personal lives are important — there is life outside the office, and unhappy families or a lack of personal satisfaction will eventually create stress for employees and affect their engagement on the job.

The impact on the family

While companies may invest considerable resources on behalf of expatriate employees, many overlook the unique issues and needs facing their spouses and families. Spouses may give up their careers, leave their friends, and find themselves having to plant roots in a new and unfamiliar country. Spousal stress or dissatisfaction is one of the primary reasons that many international assignments fail or lead to divorce.
